Who remembers getting a crisp Radio Times at Christmas, flicking through the day-by-day breakdowns of what was on, blue biro pen out, marking the ones you were excited to watch? I feel nostalgic for those times; the anticipation was part of the fun. The experience is entirely different now, but I still love it nonetheless. Re-watching old films, bingeing new box sets, and fully sinking into the sofa eating a pick-n-mix of Christmas chocs is genuinely an elite experience. Call me a loser, but this year, not only did I save up all the shows I’ve been wanting to watch, but I also made a tick list to make my way through between now and Twixmas.
Christmas Classics |
Curly Sue. My all-time favourite film. Nothing will top this film for me. It’s the perfect mix of funny, heart-warming and festive.
Santa Clause (the classic! and The Santa Clause with Tim Allen)
Scrooged (with Billy Murray)
This is probably pretty niche, but A Christmas Carol with Ross Kemp! (Showing on ITVX)
Home Alone 1&2 is Dan’s favourite and always a good watch.
Miracle on 34th Street, the one with Mara Wilson, not the classic.
Love Actually and The Holiday, it just has to be done.
Elf (Another of Dan’s and Granch’s favs!)
Jingle All The Way
National Lampoons Christmas Vacation
Films that aren’t entirely Christmas-themed
but feel like Christmas to me |
The Harry Potter Series (I usually prefer to skip from film three, but I can only ever watch this at Christmas time. Is that weird?)
Stardust is ridiculously underrated. Michelle Pfeiffer is an icon in this!
Bat Man Returns
Sister Act
Raising Helen (this is one of my all-time favourite films)
Corrina Corrina
Die Hard
Lethal Weapon
You’ve got Mail (another favourite!)
Stepmom (one of the saddest films of all time but just feels like a Christmas film)
TV BOXSETS |
Yellow Stone the final season! We’ve been saving this specifically to watch with my Granch as he loves a good cowboy show or film!
Slow Horses
Shrinking
Bad Sisters season 2 (we are also rewatching season 1 to be fully prepared)
Virgin River
Black Doves
Somebody Somewhere
Rivals
Day Of the Jackel
I doubt we’ll make it through the entire list, but we will give it a good crack! Please tell me everything you are watching below in the comments or over in the chat.
Merry Christmas/ Happy Holidays, everyone. Happy TV watching!
Corrina Corrina is one of my favorite movies.
